Would You Rehire Them? The Only Question That Matters

Every leader should ask one question at the end of the year: Would I rehire this person today?

Sit down with your senior team.

Go name by name.

No excuses, no justifications.

If you wouldn’t enthusiastically rehire someone, ask yourself why they are still on your team.

This is about standards.

When you hold on to someone out of habit, you lower the bar for everyone.

Mediocre team members make excellent ones question why they’re still carrying the weight.

This is called being responsible.

The wrong person in a role hurts your company.

No one thrives in the wrong seat.

Letting them linger does them no favors.

This exercise forces clarity.

If someone isn’t a yes, what needs to change?

Can they be coached up, or is it time to part ways?

Great teams don’t happen by accident.

They’re built with intention.

The strongest leaders recruit well.

They also dare to let go when it’s time.

A team full of people you’d rehire today is a team built for the future.

Anything less is dead weight.
