Wii: coming to your apartment fitness center soon

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – For years, video games have been blamed for turning kids into idle layabouts who only venture off the couch to fill up on potato chips and soda.

Nintendo Co Ltd now aims to shatter that image with a game that aims to get players off the couch and lead them to stretch, shake and sweat their way to a healthy life.

I can see it now, “Wii Fit” in your apartment fitness centers. You want something to differentiate you this spring/summer, get a Wii and find a sponsor (maybe Nintendo) to host some events in your fitness center or maybe your clubhouse. You could have bowling tournaments, tennis tournaments, etc… It’s emotional, it’s engaging, it’s remarkable and it’s memorable. You know all those things that generate WOM or conversation.

Conversation…hmmmmm! As marketers of our respective communities, is that not what we want? We want a conversation going on about our communities. We want people talking about how cool it is that their community did a social event that incorporated a Wii tennis tournament. We want to give people a reason to talk about us. Hopefully it’s a positive one.
