This story reminds me of something that we have all talked about but few of us have developed a plan around.
It’s good weekend reading. Short and sweet.
Here is an excerpt:
CHARLOTTE, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Crescent Multifamily Development Group today introduced Circle, a new
apartment concept for the multifamily industry with an innovative
approach to apartment living. With communities already under
construction in North Carolina and Florida, residents will have the
opportunity to live in an upscale, environmentally friendly development
centered on enriching social experiences.
Crescent expects to have 1,300 Circle residences under construction by
mid-April 2008. With additional communities planned to start
construction this year in North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, Crescent
is also exploring other high-growth markets for Circle as part of its
expansion plans, including Dallas and Washington D.C.
“With Circle, Crescent is poised to meet the
needs of today’s modern apartment residents by
fostering a sense of community and doing something good for the
environment,” said Todd Farrell, president of
Crescent Multifamily Development Group.
Circle was inspired through extensive review and analysis of current
industry trends and marketplace needs. The progressive Circle
communities will be places where neighbors connect and become stewards
of the larger community. In addition to presenting a new breed of
apartments that people are excited to live in, Circle developments will
also be infused with the exceptional quality and customer-oriented
features that have become Crescent hallmarks. [Read more here]

Having a business that revolves around social interaction, I have to admit I’m a bit biased, but I absolutely love this idea. Aside from the social aspect, which is a phenomenal plan, what I also like is how the company is differentiating itself. Most companies would likely say, “Well, some people like to be very private, and we don’t want to put them off.” So in their quest for a one-size fits all approach, those companies wouldn’t have the fortitude to try anything outside of the norm. Way to go Crescent to push the boundaries!
This is a great post. It is a fascinating idea and it will be interesting to see if they pull it off on a mass scale, and if they really produce something different in their product offering or just hype. We should keep our eye on what they are doing; there is likely some interesting things to learn. Done right, they will add value to the residents experience that no one else is hitting.
B,
Thank you so much for the comment. I could not agree more. I wish I live a little closer to the development so I could see the experience play out.
In lieu of that I will do my best to keep abreast of the development and the subsequent resident experience. M
