Text Message shopping; can the apartment industry follow a retail giant?

Here is yet another example of how text messaging is taking the retail world by storm. I think ForRent has a great first step on all the other ILS and apartment information providers and my hope is that they don’t stall their efforts. Let’s take it to the next step and make it possible for someone who has just left the community to go ahead and reserve that apartment they just looked at by sending a text to my Yardi system.

  1. Ok, I have to say it…For Rent was NOT first with text messaging…we were….Apartment Home Living. We started it 6 months before anyone else ever did, and now we also offer custom texting to our clients. They can push the text themselves, or put up signs/banners and let the client drive-by and text for info themselves.

It really bugs me that people think they were first. Because we’re smaller, we’re much more nimble. And sometimes–the fastest actually wins!
