When asked how they searched for an apartment, all five participants said the internet. Not one suggested they looked at a print media ad.
*Note, I recognize that five people on a stage, no matter the context, is not necessary the exact view of a larger group. Nevertheless, it does allow us to peer into the micro-trends and potentially the macro-trends that are facing our business.

In my discussions with 5 Gen Yers who I curently work with, all also pointed to wanting to use locators. This was extremely surprising to me. However, it fits with Gen Y’s want for a “personalized” touch and personal help. Their parents have always been with them to help before. NOw that they’ll be on their own, they still want help…from their friends or from a professional. It will be interesting to see what happens in the locator markets over the next few years.
K, I am excited to see what happens as well. I think it will move more and more to a real estate agent like market. I think one day we will see ads in For Rent and Apartment Guide advertising people in lieu of buildings.
Thank you for taking the time to comment as I believe all perspectives are valuable to the community we are building. M
