What I am thinking about….

apple

“Apple built a design driven culture that knows how to connect with its customers in a deeply emotional way. Apple products are portals to an amazing menu of of continuing experiences that matter to a lot of us.” – Robert Brunner and Stewart Emery

My three year old daughter, Kate, said to me, “Daddy – guess what!” I said, “what?” She said, “I love you.” I asked, “Kate, what is love.” She said, “it’s when your heart is happy.” It made my heart happy to hear that my three year old grasped the fact of love. Hat’s off to @sbrewer10 for that.

I say all that to ask this, “what makes your resident’s heart happy?” If their apartment is the portal to amazing experiences then what are those experiences that bring peace and happiness to their heart? It’s deep and it’s key.

  1. Mike-

I LOVE this post! When selling, everyone should remember we sell an experience. Too often we get caught up in the minutiae and forget the experience is what people are buying.

Apple is a great example. There are many options for an MP3 player, and many would argue that an iPod is superior. However, it’s the experience one has by owning an iPod that makes it the #1 seller. People don’t talk about how easy an iPod is to use or how it’s better than another brand, they just say they own an iPod because they know it’s a statement about who they are and what’s important to them. That’s the experience.

At first it takes a quality design, but in the long term it’s always about the experience.

Thanks so much Mike! Enjoy your day.

  2. Hey Mike,
I too have been thinking about this a lot, and from our experience with working hard to Enhance the Residents Experience, I am starting to believe that the way a Resident Feels about us may be the most important attribute.

    Great stuff my friend!
