I think you will see more and more of ideas like this popping up in our industry. Sponsored events is what I would call them for lack of a sexier name.
We are brain-storming the idea of approaching 8 to 10 local establishments in an effort to secure a bus with a professional driver. Our thought is that the establishments would pay for the bus and we would supply the patrons. We would invite our residents to come along with us as we toured the cities coolest hangouts.
The marketing opportunities are endless as we could hang banners in the bus and at each establishment demonstrating our sponsorship. We could hand out fliers at each establishment with one free drink or appetizer ticket. They could include resident referral incentives as well. We could do a scavenger hunt hiding clues at each stop.
Let me hear you ideas…

Very cool idea. I love it.
On the other hand, I put together a (well advertised and hyped) trip to blackhawk which would cost the residents $5 each… and there was a total turnout of 4 residents out of 504 units.
Great idea; not so great turnout.
I tend to see that my residents aren’t interested in any of the events we have tried (resident karaoke night with free drink and 10% off the total tab, holiday free gift wrapping, etc etc…
Why!!!!!????
You want to know why? Because people (residents included) are in love with the idea that their community does really cool stuff. It doesn’t mean that they do it. But, they can talk about it to everyone that they run into and that makes them feel cool and relevant.
It’s not a bad thing that you have 4 people on the first attempt. It bad if you have 4 people on the 5th attempt. Keep it up and let me know how it goes. M
