Staying Motivated

Staying motivated during the grind can be challenging, especially when facing a long-term goal or a difficult project. I’ve been there myself. I’m there now in training for a marathon. Here are a few strategies to keep yourself motivated and on track to achieving your goals.
- Make sure you set clear and achievable goals. One of the most important things you can do to stay motivated is to set clear and achievable goals. Make sure your goals are specific, measurable, and attainable, and set a deadline for yourself to reach them. This will give you something to work towards and a sense of accomplishment when you reach your goal. Most importantly, make sure they are not so far out of reach or unrealistic as to rob your spirit and, thus, your motivation.
- Break tasks into smaller chunks. Another great way to stay motivated is to break down larger tasks into smaller chunks. This will make the task feel less daunting and more manageable. Set small milestones for yourself, and celebrate each as you reach them. I picked a program for my marathon that broke my training into daily exercises over eighteen weeks.
- Rewarding yourself for making progress is important, no matter how small. Treat yourself to something you enjoy: a piece of chocolate, a short break, or a longer reward like a weekend getaway. This will help keep you motivated and remind you why you’re working hard.
- Surround yourself with positivity. Surround yourself with positive people who will support and encourage you. Seek a mentor or an accountability partner who can help you stay focused and motivated. Also, stay away from negative people and situations that drain your energy.
- Take care of yourself. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself physically and mentally. Get plenty of sleep, eat well, and exercise regularly. Take breaks when needed, and find ways to de-stress, such as meditation, yoga, or journaling. Sleep and Yoga have been key for me in 2023.
- Keep things in perspective. Finally, try to keep things in perspective. Remember why you started and how far you’ve come. Acknowledge that setbacks are a normal part of the process and remind yourself that you can achieve your goals.
Good luck!

Master One Thing

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of being a “jack of all trades.” After all, having a wide range of skills and abilities can make you a valuable asset in the job market, right?
Not necessarily, says marketing guru Seth Godin. In his book “The Dip,” Godin argues that success comes from becoming a master of one specific thing rather than a generalist.
The problem with being a generalist, according to Godin, is that you’ll never truly stand out in any one area. You’ll be good at many things but great at none. And in today’s competitive job market, being “good” isn’t enough.
On the other hand, if you focus on becoming an expert in one specific area, you can differentiate yourself from the competition. You’ll have a unique skill set that sets you apart and makes you more valuable to potential employers or customers.
But becoming a specialist doesn’t mean giving up all other interests or pursuits. Godin encourages people to find their “dip” – the point at which a quest becomes too hard or uninteresting – and then move on to something else. This way, you can continue exploring different areas of interest while maintaining expertise in one area.
So if you’re looking to take your career, business, or life to the next level, consider becoming a specialist in one specific area. It may be a bit uncomfortable at first, but in the long run, it will pay off in terms of success and fulfillment.

What Would a Healthy Person Do?
Photo by Emma Simpson on Unsplash
When it comes to maintaining our physical and mental health, it can be easy to get caught up in fad diets, workouts, and quick fixes. However, the key to true wellness lies in understanding and emulating the habits of those already living healthy lifestyles. And as it is vital to your effectiveness in Multifamily Management or any other endeavor, it’s good practice to ask yourself a straightforward question when making healthy choices
“What would a healthy person do?”
Here are some best practices for maintaining wellness that healthy individuals commonly adopt:
- Prioritize sleep: A healthy person understands the importance of sleeping well each night. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to ensure your body has the time to repair and rejuvenate.
- Eat a balanced diet: A healthy person knows that a balanced diet is crucial for maintaining good health. This means including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your diet. Avoid processed foods and excessive sugar and salt. It’s easier said than done.
- Exercise regularly: A healthy person makes time for regular physical activity. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, such as brisk walking or cycling, most days of the week. I think four to six is a good target.
- Manage stress: A healthy person knows that stress can take a toll on the body and mind. Find ways to manage stress, such as meditation, yoga, or other relaxation techniques. I’m a big believer is studying stoicism for this purpose.
- Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption: A healthy person knows that smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can seriously affect the body and mind.
Remember that wellness is a journey, not a destination, and that small changes can make a big difference over time.”

On Procrastination

Procrastination is a common problem. It can manifest in various ways, from putting off small tasks to delaying important projects for weeks or months. If left unchecked, procrastination can lead to stress, anxiety, and even depression.
Some strategies can help you overcome procrastination and get started on your tasks:
- Break tasks into smaller chunks: One of the main reasons people procrastinate is because they feel overwhelmed by the size and complexity of a task. By breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks, you can make them feel less daunting and more manageable. This will help you focus on one task at a time and make steady progress. The feeling of progress is motivating.
- Set specific, measurable targets: People procrastinate because they don’t know what they want to accomplish. Setting specific, measurable targets can help you focus your efforts and give you a clear direction.
- Eliminate distractions: Distractions are a primary culprit when it comes to procrastination. Whether it’s your phone, alerts, notifications, the internet, or others, distractions can pull you away from your work and make it difficult to focus. To overcome procrastination, you must eliminate these distractions as much as possible. Turn off your phone, close unnecessary tabs on your computer, and create a quiet, focused environment in which to work.
- Use a timer: Another effective strategy for overcoming procrastination is a timer. Setting a timer for 20 minutes can help you stay focused and motivated. Once the timer goes off, you can take a short break and then set the timer again. This technique, called the Pomodoro Technique, can help you stay on task and make steady progress.
- Reward yourself: Finally, make sure to reward yourself for your efforts. Whether it’s a small treat or a more extended break, rewards can help you stay motivated and on track.
