Trimming the team
Mike Brewer · · 1 Comment
I think it goes without saying that the economy is bad. And, in a bad economy businesses from every discipline across the world face the prospects of truing up and or slashing expenses. The multifamily space is no different. Payroll being the single biggest expense in nearly any budget is likely the first line item to get scrubbed. I think it important to think about how that line gets evaluated. In other words, how do you go about selecting the team members that get laid off?
It’s a new day and companies are contending with a rapidly changing climate. The speed of that change demands minds that are agile and adaptable. It requires talent.
What criteria are you using to make decisions about laying off team members? Is talent one of them or is it just the last one hire is the first one to go?

Property Management Leadership
I have forever been of the opinion that business is in place to serve the growth of the people that serve it. In an effort to set yourself apart from the competition in the apartment space and especially in a down economy, you have to serve the talent in your organization. It’s not your Father’s world anymore is a phrase you have to come to understand. The days of command and control are done. You can’t expect the talent you employee to serve the customer in an amazing and over the top fashion if you don’t echo the same to your talent. You can have the best standard operating procedures on the country and be the worst organization in the world. Make nurturing talent first on your list in 09′.
What are you doing to serve your talent today?

Property Managers/Apartment Marketers: Are you ready to be real?
What a great statement Gary makes in this video. Note: I watch every new show he airs not only for the great wine tips but the guy just inspires me. I will admit, it scares the hell out of me to pull the politically correct corporate america facade and go full out. That said, his statements speak volumes at many levels.

Social Marketing + Care + Time = Success
When you CARE, you MAKE the time. –Tom Peters
I read Tom’s quote of the day and thought; this is what social marketing is really about. If you care to have a successful social marketing presence then you will take the time to build it. You would put time and effort into not unlike the great team over at Urbane.
Who knows what is to come of this social media/marketing reality we live in. A couple facts to note; it is here, it is real and it is real powerful. If you don’t believe it, look no further than Obama’s campaign strategy. They employed social media/networks more effectively than ever imagined. It was brilliant.
I look forward to all the discussions to come and more importantly the generation and execution of some amazing game changing ideas.
Make time to care about your position in the world of social media/marketing today and thank you as always for taking the time to read our blog. Have an compelling day today.

ilist: The new Craigslist?
Hat tip to Rentwiki for for this lead:
To preface: After twitterrank filtered through the Twittterverse yesterday, I was a bit gun shy about sharing any personal information relative to my SM sites. ilist asks for private information for every one of your SM sites and you can only imagine what went through my head.
I did proceed despite my angst. The following came right from their website and it appears to me the multifamily space may have another avenue for marketing. Not only that, the market will very tightnit and focused. My question is, will that market feel invaded upon?
