Saying yes is easy. Picture the Easy Button made famous by Staples. Saying no requires judgment. I want to see the equivalent of the Easy Button – the NO Button!
Every yes commits resources, time, attention, and credibility. And dare I say ego. Especially if done to gain favor. Leaders who say yes too often unintentionally overwhelm their teams.
Thoughtful refusal protects focus and preserves trust. When teams know that leadership carefully guards capacity, engagement improves, and execution strengthens.
